How does MPT help you with your outdoor performance goals?
I work full-time as a climbing guide with Pisgah Climbing School, so I need the strength and endurance to handle tough routes and long days on my feet, as well as prevent overuse injuries. MPT’s functional training helps build the specific strength I need for climbing, especially in key areas like shoulders, fingers, and knees, and boosts my energy for full days of guiding. I also volunteer on local search and rescue teams, where I need to be ready for anything. MPT’s training keeps me prepared to hike far, carry heavy gear, and perform well in challenging conditions.
What is your favorite race or event that you do?
Rock and ice climbing, alpine climbing and skiing.

How does MPT help you with your outdoor performance goals?
As a climbing guide, I think of myself as an industrial athlete. I use my body for work everyday. While climbing keeps me fit, I deal with muscular imbalances that can only be worked on at the gym. I also need to be in the best shape possible since one of the primary functions of my work is to manage people’s risk. Being physically fit is one way I manage risk. Not only do I have the capacity to perform my day-to-day tasks, but I also have more in the tank in case something goes sideways.
What is your favorite race or event that you do?
Last year I raced the Swank 65. It was a great challenge and rewarding to cross the finish line.
Occupation:
Rock and Ice Climbing Guide
I am the owner of Fox Mountain Guides and Climbing School

How does MPT help you with your outdoor performance goals?
The programming at MPT is top tier, with a great mix of consistency and variability that drives real results. I am stronger, more balanced, and able to do hard things in the woods and on the water. Carrying my 50+ lb kayak with gear feels easier, and I have more stamina for long days. My mobility, core, and back are the best they have been in years.
Working an office job took a toll, but since training consistently at MPT, my lower back hurts less, my shoulders are more mobile, and everything feels better. The programming is dynamic, the community is strong, and it feels good to feel good.
After some health issues, I committed to training year-round. MPT is an integral part of my plan.
What is your favorite race or event that you do?
The Green Race is my favorite race of the year. It is a class V whitewater kayaking race through the Green River gorge between Saluda and Hendersonville, NC. It is hard to lay down a good lap, and you only get one shot. Every year, I come out a better kayaker and more connected to our community.
Occupation:
Engineer - I work in water and wastewater infrastructure design for rural municipalities.
